Today’s Topic: By His Stripes
Scripture: But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5, NKJV
Today’s Word
Imagine Jesus sitting at the right hand of the Father and hearing us pray, “Lord, if it’s Your will, You can heal me.” He says to the Father, “So after I took all those stripes, endured all that pain for them, to take their sickness, now they’re wondering if it’s My will?” That doesn’t honor God. After the price He paid, the way to honor God is to have the attitude: “Lord, I know You want to heal me.” We see all through the Scripture that healing is His will.
One of the best things we can do is to remind God of what He says. If you want to pray with confidence, bring His stated will to Him. Pray what He promises. “God, You say You will restore health to me. You say You took my infirmities, carried my sickness, and by Your stripes I have been healed. You say You wish above all things that I prosper and be in good health.” When you pray the promises, you won’t say “if it is Your will,” because you know His will.
Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that You have come into my life as my Savior, as my provider, and as Jehovah Rapha, the Lord my healer. Thank You that it is Your stated will to heal and restore. I will trust You to keep me strong and healthy, always taking new ground. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
Sometimes, in our minds, we’ve developed these mental ruts from years of wrong thinking. “I’m a victim. I’ve been through too much. I’ll never get well. I can’t break this bad habit.” We’re living in a mental rut that we’ve created. We dug the ditch. We sent the work order. We hired the bulldozer. We paid the contractor. We didn’t realize, through negative thinking, we were building something that would limit us, paving a road that would keep us stuck. But you can get out of that ditch. You can break any stronghold that’s held you back.
The forces that are for you are greater than forces that are against you. When you get in agreement with God, and start meditating on what He says, now your repetitive thoughts are full of faith, hope, victory. That’s what it means to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. No more, “I’m a victim. I’ve been through too much.” That’s going to keep you in the ditch. How about, “I’m a victor. God always causes me to triumph.
Paul said, “I have learned how to be content.” He didn’t say, “I was born content. This is my natural personality. That’s why I’m happy.” He said, “I had to learn this. I had to be disciplined in what I think. I had to guard my mind.” Some of us have learned to be discouraged, learned to be insecure, learned to expect the worst. These are pathways we’ve unknowingly helped pave in our brain to facilitate how we think. If we get upset in traffic every morning, our command center is telling those neurons to build a highway. “He wants to get upset every time this happens.
Make it easy.” When our relative says something we don’t like, we get offended. It ruins our day. Those neurons go to work. Recognize what’s happening. If you can learn to be offended, learn to be discouraged, then you can learn to be happy, learn to stay in peace. Paul said, “You can be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” When you start thinking the right thoughts, it not only affects you mentally, your attitude, but your brain creates new pathways, pathways that work for you, not against you.
